There IS more than corn in Indiana… so they say! In our small town, our agriculture heritage is a big deal. But Maconaquah High School is also on the forefront of bringing the business of ag back into public schools. The FFA chapter and middle school FARM to SCHOOL project have joined forces to incorporate more hands-on-learning about food production for students in elementary through high school. From raising beef for the school lunchroom to harvesting corn, Maconaquah kids are changing agricultural education.

With two daughters dedicated to serving on the Maconaquah FFA officer board, I was happy to donate my time to photographing this fantastic group of leaders. The girls explained to me the need for images to promote their organization to other potential members, as well as headshots for inter-organization public relations. Oh, and it was a fun, team-building experience to connect with their fellow officers!

We met up on our family’s farm in southern Miami County, IN at sunset to get creative. The officers brought both their official dress blue courderoy jackets and black skirts, as well as a casual outfit consisting of denim jeans and navy embroidered shirts. We explored a wide range of locations - including modern and vintage tractors, our big white barn, the pasture fence and of course, fields of corn. Although FFA has changed over the years and has become more about leadership - and less about future “farmers” - we captured their enthusiasm and pride for Indiana agriculture.

Let me introduce myself

Hey there! I’m Amanda - central Indiana photographer and designer - capturing high school Seniors, families, and small businesses in the Peru, Indiana area. I love promoting agriculture and feel right at home on the farm. Give me denim and boots any day! My herd consists of my husband Jimmy, three adult children, one dog, two cats, and two horses. I’m a small town girl at heart and love traveling the back roads of Indiana, but also love exploring the big city and downtown streets!
